KOS TOWN is a lunatic mix of beach resort, open air nightclub and ancient ruins that spreads in all directions inland from the enclosed port. Greek and Roman remains, including elegant columns and beautiful street mosaics, are incongruously pitted against music-thumping bar street that are a hell of people and neon at night.

The ancient physician Hippocrates is thought to have been born on Kos, and in the center of the town is the Plane Tree of Hippocrates, a dream temple where the physician is traditionally supposed to have taught.
