SOFIA (Bulgaria)
2-9 March 2004

I have spent one week in Sofia to visit Benny. I went there by coach (16 hours!). The city lies at the foot of Vitosha mountain. During the day sometime I was wandering alone, cause Benny was working. But we always had at least lunch together. The main problem for me was to understand the cyrillic alphabet. Anyway the 3rd of March it is the Bulgarian Indipendence Day, a bank holiday. On that they I visited the most important buildings and monument of the city and in the evening she had prepared a nice surprice: we went to see in the theatre of the National Palace of Culture an exibition of folk-dances and folk-songs.

Then in the other days I enjoyed especially the night life: once we had a dinner with some friends of her and so we bought traditional food, another time we went in a restaurant with her brother George (Gosha) and his girlfriend, often we ate the delicioud dishes of her grandmother. Anyway everyday I ate a lot of palacinke (pancakes). On Sunday we went on the countryside, where the parents of Benny are building a house, so we went for a walk on the mountains and we reached a monastery.

The ospitality has been great. I have appreciated the city, the traditional dishes, the company of her friends and of her relatives.
